Why this company exists
Software that people depend on in serious moments is too often built by companies that will not be there when it matters.
The pattern is familiar. A product solves a real problem, finds the people who need it, and is then acquired, deprioritised or quietly shut down — not because it stopped working, but because it was never the point. The people who built their week around it are left to find something else.
We set the company up the other way round. First Light Softech is small, independent, and builds one product at a time. We operate what we make rather than handing it on, and we would rather grow slowly with something people trust than quickly with something they merely tried.
What we are trying to do
Our aim is narrower than a mission statement and, we think, more useful: build a small number of products that hold up under pressure, and stay responsible for them.
That word — pressure — is deliberate. We are drawn to problems where the software is used on a difficult day rather than an easy one, because that is where careless design does real damage and where careful design is worth the most.
What we look for in a product
We are slow to start something new. Before we build, three things have to be true:
- The situation genuinely matters to the person in it. Not a preference or a convenience — something with consequences.
- The existing tools treat it carelessly. Usually by optimising for the easy version of the problem and abandoning the user at the hard version.
- We can build and support the whole thing ourselves. If it needs a department we do not have, it is not our product to make.
Parenting Path, our first product, met all three. Whatever comes next will have to as well.
Our name
First light is the earliest part of the day, before the sun is properly up. It is not a claim that anything has been solved. It is the point at which the next day starts anyway — which felt like the right thing to name a company that wants to be useful early, quietly, and for a long time.
How we work
We run what we build
One product at a time, handled in-house: design, engineering, support, and the privacy and legal work that serious software has to get right. We are not an agency, we do not take contract work, and we do not build things we intend to hand to someone else.
Build for the hardest case
We design for the person in the worst version of the situation, not the demo version. If a product only works when everyone involved is calm, organised and acting in good faith, it does not work.
Protection is never an upsell
Whatever keeps someone safe or private is free on every plan of every product we make, including the free ones. Withholding it to prompt an upgrade would mean charging the people with the least room to pay.
Collect less
The least data that makes a product work, held for the shortest time that is useful. This website is the plainest version of that promise: it sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and makes no third-party requests at all.
Where we are
The company is registered and operates in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, and works to Indian Standard Time. Our products serve customers internationally.
